If you have a build that can use it, and are willing to go to great lengths to acquire it, the Blade of Mercy may just be your new favorite weapon.
What Does The Blade of Mercy Do?
The Blade of Mercy is a trick weapon that scales with your Skill and Arcane stats, getting stronger each time you level-up either of these attributes.
This makes it the ideal choice of weapon for any player using a Skill/Arcane build, or any Skill build that wants to cast some spells and use Hunter Tools from time to time.
Even if you aren’t interested in using Arcane abilities, you may still enjoy using the Blade of Mercy, due to its unique alternate form.
While the Blade of Mercy is a fairly normal shortsword in its standard form, its alternate form sees the Hunter pull the Blade apart into a pair of dual-wielded daggers.
This alternate form speeds up the Blade’s moveset significantly – allowing you to duck and weave around attacks and counter-strike almost instantly.
While the Blade of Mercy isn’t a huge damage dealer in the early game, it still works amazingly as a secondary weapon to deal with nimble foes.
It works especially well when combined with slower Skill weapons such as Ludwig’s Holy Blade and the transformed Chikage.
How To Get The Blade of Mercy
You can unlock the Blade of Mercy for purchase in the Hunter’s Dream Messenger shop.
To do this, you’ll have to collect the Crow Hunter Badge from Eileen the Crow – you can do this by either completing her questline, or simply killing her the first time you meet.
Here’s a quick rundown on how to complete her questline:
- Find Eileen outside the Central Yharnam Warehouse and exhaust her dialogue
- Open all three large gates in Cathedral Ward
- Find Eileen again just outside the building that holds the Cathedral Ward Lamp
- Exhaust her dialogue here, then fight Vicar Amelia
- Warp back to the Cathedral Ward Lamp, then backtrack to the Father Gascoigne boss arena
- Help her defeat the hostile hunter in the boss arena, then exhaust her dialogue again
- Progress through the game until you beat Rom, The Vacuous Spider
- Head back to the Vicar Amelia boss arena and help Eileen in her fight there
- Once the fight is won, talk to Eileen to get the Crow Hunter Badge
If Eileen dies at any point during her questline, she will prematurely drop the Crow Hunter Badge.
This will happen regardless of how she dies, so feel free to kill her if you want to collect the Badge early. Bear in mind that doing this will lock you out of the Hunter of Hunters Covenant.
Once you have the Crow Hunter Badge, you can pick up the Blade of Mercy from the Hunter’s Dream Messenger Shop for 40,000 Blood Echoes.
Is The Blade of Mercy Worth It?
The Blade of Mercy is an excellent choice for any build that plans on investing heavily into Skill.
Its wide moveset, fast attacks, and S-rank scaling with Skill makes it a huge damage dealer in any build that can take advantage of its scaling.
It’s also versatile, fitting in nicely with almost any other Skill weapon.
If you’re using a Skill build, you should absolutely consider using The Blade of Mercy.
