Skill builds may still want to seek out the Burial Blade, though, thanks to its incredible moveset and power.
What Is The Burial Blade?
The Burial Blade is a Skill-based weapon that takes the form of a large curved sword in its standard form.
While slightly slower than most Skill weapons, it makes up for it with a long reach and strong base attack.
The Burial Blade’s alternate form is where it really shines. In its transformed state, the Blade takes the form of Gehrman’s iconic great scythe.
In this form, the damage of the Burial Blade is massively buffed, and its range is the highest of any Skill weapon in the game.
It’s this form that brings many players to the Burial Blade, due to its reach, damage, and speed.
When combined with a faster Skill weapon such as the Blade of Mercy or Chikage, the Burial Blade forms one half of the strongest Skill build in the game, giving you power, speed and versatility.
How To Get The Burial Blade
Note: This section of the article has spoilers for one of Bloodborne’s endings.
Getting the Burial Blade is a fairly simple process once you’re far enough through the game to start it.
Here’s how to get it:
- Progress through the game until the Hunter’s Dream catches fire
- Talk to Gehrman in the field and choose to ‘refuse’ to start his boss fight
- Defeat Gehrman to gain the Old Hunter Badge
- The game will now end and begin anew in New Game+
- Return to the Hunter’s Dream to buy the Burial Blade from the Messenger shop
This list of steps assumes you haven’t unlocked the true ending by consuming the three pieces of Great One Umbilical Cord.
If you have, you can get the Burial Blade without moving to New Game+ by dying to the Moon Presence and heading to the Hunter’s Dream Messenger Shop.
Is The Burial Blade Worth It?
If you’re using a Skill build and plan to play through New Game+ or the Old Hunters DLC, the Burial Blade is absolutely worth picking up.
The Burial Blade has no real downside, nor does it have any Skill weapons that out-perform it.
It’s without a doubt one of the best Skill-scaling weapons in the game, and worth the wait if you’re willing to upgrade a second weapon to +10.
